The Of Night and Light “Apollo” tour, launched this past Saturday at local Buffalo venue, Sugar City. The support for this Halloween tour kick off bash included Eerie Shores (Fredonia, NY), Shambles (Buffalo, NY), and County Kings (Buffalo, NY), all great bands that made the hype for this show even greater than it already was. However, this was not your average tour kick off show, Of Night and Light went above and beyond creatively to make this show great. The live broadcast with All WNY from the ThinkSoJoe Show and The Struggle is Real Buffalo podcast, added an awesome atmosphere to the evening, by getting fans involved in games and broadcasting during the between set lulls to keep the energy for the evening high. Then obviously having pizza is always a HUGE plus in my books, and the deserts from Corina’s Cookies just made things even better! Finally, how could you have a halloween tour kick off show without the costumes?! Overall, Of Night and Light provided more than just a show for their dedicated Buffalo fans, they provided a great evening of fun, games, and music that other bands should take notes on.
First up to start off the evening was Eerie Shores, the experimental/alternative rock band who “mosied on in” all the way from Fredonia, NY. Despite still waiting on the release of their debut EP, Eerie Shores gave the crowd a taste of the great music that they have coming in the near future. I am excited to see what Eerie Shores has in store for us, you can catch them live next on November 13th at Stamps the Bar in support of Adventurer.
The next group to take the stage was Buffalo rock trio Shambles. If you are looking for a band to get you amped up for your boring car ride to work, then look no further. Shambles has all the fast pace, aggression, and energy that you need to get your day rolling. Their self-titled EP is out now for free on Bandcamp or Spotify and you can catch them at the All WNY Punk Halloween Show at Stamps the Bar on October 26th.
Up next, was County Kings who rocked the crowd with their hardcore sound. With their Every Time I Die vibes that Buffalo fans love, and their killer stage presence, especially from front man, Mike Cornelius, who left it all on the stage. I had been hearing great things about this band, and even caught a bit of their set at the Buffalo stop of the final Vans Warped Tour, so I was very happy when they didn’t miss my high expectations for them in the slightest. I hope to be able to see these guys soon on a full hardcore line up to see them really shine in their element.
Finally, the stars of the evening, Of Night and Light, who not only rocked the stage, but also put on an amazing even for all of their Buffalo fans. I have known Of Night and Light for quite a while now, from covering their past shows to playing shows with them, and I have nothing but amazing things to say about this group of guys.
Through their excellent band promotion, strong and positive presence in the local Buffalo scene, their overall personal demeanor, and obviously their music they have proved themselves to me as a force to be reckoned with. During their set they played songs off their recently released self-titled album that features tracks such as “Leviathan” and my personal favorite “Broken”. The upcoming Apollo tour is a huge feat for Of Night and Light, and I hope that they receive the recognition that they deserve. They are more than just a local Buffalo band, they have shined through the crowd and proven themselves to be an act that other bands can take notes on. I wish my friends in Of Night and Light the best of luck on their tour and I can’t wait to see them again soon.
